Your Team

Hi! I’m Pilar…

I work with individuals and relationships in California, who are seeking collaborative & creative psychotherapy.

  • Do you identify as a survivor, iconoclast, underdog, outsider, punk, or perfectionist?

  • Is there is a part of you that you find shameful, confusing, embarrassing, or too dark to talk about?

  • Would you like freedom from habitual responses that keep you stuck?

  • Are systems of oppression showing up in your body?

  • If so, youʼre in the right place.

Over time, you'll learn to meet these unique parts of you, with an attitude of curiosity, compassion and love. Therapy is a singular process of reflection and self-discovery. It is also a space in which to notice how cultural forces and systems of oppression may push against our ability to rise and thrive. Together, we can examine how to respond to the internal and external challenges of our lives, moment to moment.

I draw from many therapeutic orientations and influences, including attachment theory, social constructionism, somatic therapy, and neuroscience. At heart, however, I am gestalt therapist. In a nutshell, this means that I hold dear the principles of curiosity, awareness, inter-dependence, and self-responsibility.

I help clients notice what they’re doing, how they’re doing it, and how they can move towards where they want to be, while bringing full acceptance to the here and now.

Clients describe me as warm, engaging, challenging, creative, playful, and intuitive. By using your experience as the focal point of our work, we will come up with active ways to expand your awareness, and confront whatever is keeping you from the increased creativity, growth and satisfaction that you seek.

Your Inner World

Your inner world will be essential to our work together.

These are the Helpers, Bullies, Firefighters, Topdogs, Critics and Kids that reside inside of you. You’ll recognize them as the voices in your head that keep you up at night; the bullies who fill you with doubt, or silence you before you open your mouth to speak. They are the whiny babies, the avoidant pleasers, and the prize fighters that will indeed, die on that hill.

These parts may feel unlovable, unwanted and exiled, but they’re simply doing their best to help you get through the day. I want to hear from them, and together we can understand why they’ve chosen to stick around.

Over time you’ll develop a calm and secure presence amidst the chaos and respond rather than react.

…and of course, Truvy

Truvy is your therapy dog extraordinaire.

She’s a 4 year old certified superstar, and professional baby. She hails from Louisiana, and enjoys sitting on my lap during sessions, or chewing something irredeemably disgusting on the rug behind my chair.

You might see her around and I hope she brings you as much joy and comfort as she brings me. You, of course, are welcome to bring your pets to our sessions if they can support you too.
